Tourist attractions are much, much better without all the tourists. And if you haven’t picked up a pencil in a while, then by heck, a drawing session at an empty Tower of London is the place to do it.
Drawn at the Tower follows the by-now familiar formula of fun activity (provided by Art Macabre) plus cool location (courtesy of Historic Royal Palaces) — and it works. ”

We held a preview event in November 2015, introducing the Drawn at the Tower with Art Macabre programme. Attended by artists, bloggers and press, the event theme was Rebel Queens and Killer Kings, exploring the medieval monarchs within the Wakefield Tower and medieval bedchamber areas of the Tower.

Model Manko posed as the ‘She-Wolf’ Queen Isabella, a powerful figure, whilst Theo posed as her father-in-law Edward I on the throne next door. Guest artists Jake Spicer and Sue Dray shared inspiration and approaches to the subjects as they posed in costume, to a soundtrack of music that mixed contemporary and traditional.

Medieval strewing herbs provided by Odette Toilette summoned up the scents that could have been smelt during the time in the royal palace, helping to further stimulate the senses and immerse the participating sketchers in the spirit of the medieval time.

A vibrant, diverse range of drawing and sketches were created throughout the evening by the participants – a mixture of first time drawing event attendees and more experienced artists.

We look forward to the next one!
